About
The Chestnut Hill Athletic Bocce Club was formed in 1933. It was originally established as a social club under the direction of the concentration of the Italian descendents who relocated to the Chestnut Hill Area of Philadelphia.
As you may already know, Chestnut Hill is probably the most popular residential section of Philadelphia proper. Though technically within the City limits, it's on the edge of the City adjoining East Montgomery County, and for the full length of its Western boundary overlooks the beautiful Northwestern section of Fairmount Park. Chestnut Hill's popularity rests on a number of qualities, chief among them being the unique character of the Community itself and the convenient access to Center City by two rail lines, the Chestnut Hill East line (now SEPTA's R7) and the Chestnut Hill West line (now SEPTA's R8). Easy access to major auto routes (PA Turnpike, Schuylkill Expressway, Blue Route) is also a definite plus.
The Bocce Club is a service oriented social club which provides the community an organization full of professionals which can help serve community events. The highlight of the year if the Bocce Club sponsored July 4th Celebration at the Chestnut Hill Water Tower and Community Center, where all activities to celebrate the Holiday are free to the community.
In addition, the Bocce club sponsors competitive events in Philadelphia including the local recreation center Softball League, the Philadelphia Dragon Boat annual competition on Boathouse row, and competes locally with other social clubs in events such as Shuffleboard, Golf, Billiards, Flag Football, and Bocce. Annually, the Bocce opens their doors to the community to help serve Chestnut Hill Events such as the Festival for the Arts, the Garden Festival, as well as Christmas and St Patrick's Day celebrations for their members and families.
